Default Favorite Bibles - The thread to share your favorite Bibles for reading and study.

Hello Everyone.
I am aware of the Bibles that the Arian Catholic Church recommends. I am interested to know which Bible(s) the individual members of these forums prefer for their reading and studies. I read the RSV, and occasionally the YLT. I most enjoy reading the Bible of Kralice in the language of my forefathers.

With me learning Hebrew and Greek as part of my BTh, my bible collection has taken on a whole new life.. there are few I don't actually have. The NRSV is the one that sits open on my desk at all times, as I find it a great source to start my digging from.
The Jefferson Bible is a brilliant wee book as well, and I always have a look in there for a different perspective.

For recreational reading with some certainty of accuracy, I like the Oxford English Bible w/Apocrypha.

The Jefferson is a monument to conflationism. lol

For serious study, I use the Peshitta.

Default My Preferred Bibles

Shalom aleichem,

When I was a practicing Karaite Jew I used to read the JPS Hebrew-English translation of the Tanakh (OT, so-called).

Nowadays, no longer having to read the original Hebrew Scriptures in their original languages (Hebrew and Aramaic), I use the 'Good News' Bible for ease of use in reading, but I use the AV (Authorised Version) for serious study of the Tanakh and Tehudah (NT, so-called). The AV, of course, is based on the Textus Receptus, which is generally more accurate, while the vast majority of modern translations into English use the Alexandrian texts, which contain more errors than the translations of the Textus Receptus.

Anyway, those are my favourite Bibles for study and ease of use.

I have a question for Postulare42 regarding the Oxford English Bible w/Apocrypha... are you referring to the the Revised English Bible (REB)? And regarding the Peshitta you use, do you read it in the original Aramaic? or is it an English translation? If so, which translation? I tend to cross reference many different Bibles online, so I am always interested in hearing about personal preferences. Thanks for the responses thus far!

I have a lot, especially by Lamsa and Magiera.

Yes, I am getting fairly good at reading and writing Aramaic, and I'm fairly certain that my accent is horrifying.
