The Teaching (Didache) of the Twelve Apostles to the Gentiles is one of the oldest Christian documents. It was written before the fall of Jerusalem, but after Simon ha Tzaddik became the second Bishop of Jerusalem and the whole church (See Clementine inscriptions). It represents an Apostolic Encyclical and therefore is ex cathedra statement of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem. It is earlier than all the Gospels and is contemporary with Mark, Q, and Thomas. Only 1 Thessalonians and 1 Corinthians is older than Didache. It was considered scripture in the Eastern Church for the first five centuries after its writing.
The Didache was rediscovered by Metropolitan Byrennios of Nicomedia in 1837 and has been a part of Christian understanding since that time.
