I've read many things on monastic traditions, both East and West.
Recently, I was reminded of a Russian Orthodox tradition that bears a resemblance to Western Franciscan Lay Oblates (Third Order) in particular. While Western Oblates usually marry, this seems perhaps a viable next step along the continuum.
